On April 22nd 2025 SusAir officially released its first public Insight Report, titled “Designing for Adaptive Passenger Behavior in Future Airports.” This marks the first major publication from the company’s in-house R&D program launched earlier this year and sets the tone for a series of thought leadership papers to follow.

Compiled by the Systems Innovation Group the report presents key findings from six months of behavioral simulations spatial modeling and scenario analysis focused on how airports can better respond to shifting passenger patterns and behavioral unpredictability.

A New Design Logic Rooted in Human Flow

The 68-page report outlines a framework for mapping airport spaces based on behavioral personas rather than traditional zoning logic. Instead of fixed pathways the system proposes adaptive corridors that change based on real-time flow density traveler profiles and purpose of travel.

According to lead researcher Dr. Timur Sarsenbayev

“The future passenger cannot be predicted only accommodated. Our models allow terminals to become elastic intelligent and behavior-aware. This report distills the earliest applications of those concepts into usable design logic.”

The research includes visual simulations using SusAir’s proprietary Pattern Dynamics Engine a digital tool that allows architects and planners to visualize terminal usage at both macro and micro levels. One case study shows how a mid-size terminal layout shifts dynamically throughout the day based on low-cost carrier clusters family travel surges and red-eye flight groupings.

Key Takeaways from the Report

The report also introduces a Behavioral Zoning Index (BZI) – a composite metric for evaluating how well a space aligns with observed traveler actions. The index is now being used internally at SusAir to benchmark early design concepts before they are developed into full-scale models.

Public Knowledge as a Strategic Tool

The release of this Insight Report signals SusAir’s move toward greater openness in sharing its research process with the broader infrastructure and design community. All reports will be published quarterly and made available in both PDF and interactive web format through SusAir’s Insights page.

Ms. Pham Ngoc Anh Thi Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Susdev Group commented:

“Knowledge only matters when it moves. Our reports are not about publishing results they’re about publishing thought. We want to challenge assumptions build new dialogue and invite the industry to think deeper with us.”

This first Insight Report is now available for free download and is accompanied by a short video walkthrough and interactive data models to help readers explore its findings in context.
